DAY 01 TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ – CAÑÓN DEL SUMIDERO – SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS

Upon arrival  you will be received at Tuxtla Gutierrez airport and transfer to Grijalva river to navigate and observe the geological wonder that gives its name the Sumidero Canyon, which we will also observe diversity of flora and fauna. When finished, we will move to the colonial city of San Cristóbal de las Casas (2’300 msnm), founded in 1528 by the captain Diego de Mazariegos, and declared cultural heritage of humanity. Arrival, registration in the chosen hotel and rest of the day off.

DAY 02 SAN CRISTÓBAL – MONTEBELLO LAKES – SAN CRISTÓBAL

Morning departure from San Cristobal de las Casas, to Montebello lakes, our First visit will be the indigenous pottery community of Ama Tenango del Valle; later, we will go to the waterfall of the Chiflón, a natural water fall that is surrounded by lush vegetation formed by cane fields and palm groves, we will end the visit to the most beautiful lake area in Mexico: the Montebello lakes. The natural reserve that it carries this name, this one composed of several hectares of pines, oaks and jungle; and where we can see several lakes, and us admire, if the weather permits, the different shades of the waters that make up this beautiful place. Return in the afternoon – night to San Cristobal de las casas. Time to rest.

DAY 03 SAN CRISTÓBAL – INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES – TUXTLA AIRPORT

After breakfast, we will visit the indigenous communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group; visiting Chamula first, to learn, and  understand the fusion of traditions contemporary and ancient Mayan characteristics that identifies this place. Later, we will continue to Zinacantan, where we will visit the church and a family cooperative house, where we will be received with a regional drink and observe as women work the waist loom of pre-Colombian period. After seeing the samples of what they produce will offer us to go to their kitchen, where if we have luckily, they’ll invite us to taste handmade tortillas. Finally, we will transfer San Cristóbal de las Casas to Tuxtla Gutierrez airport to take the return flight.
